Human Mobility
Travel Malaria, Time Spent, & Time at Risk
Human exposure to infectious mosquitoes is a consequence of mosquito blood feeding. To get bitten, a human must be spending time at a location where mosquitoes are actively seeking hosts. In developing models of human mobility for meta-population models, we assume that humans have a place where they spend most of their time called home. If we call this the domestic modality, then we would like to recognize other mobilities:
Domestic – humans have a place they call home
Seasonal Labor Migration – humans have two or more places they call home and they move back and forth among them in a predictable seasonal pattern
Migration – humans change homes
Nomadism – humans have an area they call home
