This is a review on the role of oxysterols in retinal degeneration of a rat model of Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. Check out the paper here.
Our collaborative work on Smoothened-activating cilia oxysterols was published in Molecular Cell!
This work reported cilia-associated oxysterols can activate Hedgehog signaling through Smoothened and inhibition of the formation of such oxysterols can impede Hedgehog pathway activation. This is a multi-institutional collaboration led by David Raleigh and Jeremy Reiter at UCSF. Good job by Kelly on the oxysterol analysis in this work! Check out the paper here and the Cover Art of the issue illustrating findings in this paper.
Our protocol on sterol and oxysterol analysis was accepted to Current Protocols in Toxicology!
Check out the paper here. Congrats, Josi and Kelly!
Josi received Best Graduate Student Platform Presentation Award at PANWAT!
Well done, Josi!
Tianwei and Kelly received a Travel Award to attend the International Conference on Gram-Positive Pathogens!
Check out the conference here. Congrats, Tianwei and Kelly!
Welcome Vanessa Lopez to rotate with us this quarter!
Vanessa joins Medicinal Chemistry graduate program after graduating from California State University Channel Islands majoring in Chemistry (minor in Biology and Chicano studies) and has past research experience in neuroscience and organic synthesis! Welcome, Vanessa!
Our collaborative project on antibiotic resistance was awarded an NIH R01 grant!
Our collaborative project with the Werth lab in the Department of Pharmacy, entitled: “Contribution of altered lipid metabolism to resistance to cell envelope-targeting antimicrobials in MRSA”, was recently awarded a 4-year R01 grant by NIH/NIAID! Congrats to our team members who are key contributors to this project, Kelly Hines, Hideaki Tomita, and Tianwei Shen! We also appreciate earlier support from the School of Pharmacy Faculty Innovation Fund and UW Royalty Research Fund!
Amy Li Appointed to Pharmacological Sciences Training Program!
Amy was one of 6 new trainees (out of 17) selected by the Pharmacological Sciences Training Program (PSTP) (T32GM007750) operating committee. Congrats, Amy!!!
Welcome new summer student Tania!
Tania Ruiz Velasco joins our lab for two months through the Pharmacological Science Summer Diversity Program (PSSDP). Tania just finished her Junior year at the University of Chicago majoring in Chemistry and will be studying the effect of small molecule drugs on lipid metabolism. Welcome, Tania!
