High school teachers from ATHENA workshop visit our lab!

In collaboration with the Center for Exposures, Diseases, Genomics and Environment (EDGE), we recently hosted about 20 high school teachers from around the State of Washington attending the ATHENA Teacher Workshop. Dr. Xu presented on the topic of Vitamins and Health. The teachers then visited our lab to witness techniques involved in biology, organic chemistry, and mass spectrometry! Here is a link to the blog about this event.

Welcome Dylan Ross!

We welcome Dylan joining our lab as a graduate student in Medicinal Chemistry! He is interested in ion mobility-mass spectrometry, molecular modeling, and application of these methodologies in solving biochemical and biological problems.

Welcome Hideaki Tomita!

Hideaki joined our lab as a senior fellow with expertise in genetic engineering in mammalian cells and mouse, neural stem cells, and mouse behavior studies. Hideaki received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the laboratory of Dr. Mario Capecchi at the University of Utah. He then underwent further training on neuronal stem cell in the laboratory of Dr. Freda Miller at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Welcome, Hideaki!

Josi Herron joins the lab!

Josi joins us from the Graduate Program of Environmental Toxicology after rotating with us this past summer. She will be working on the effect of quaternary ammonium compounds on neurodevelopment. Welcome, Josi!

Welcome Kelly Hines!

Kelly joins our lab as a senior fellow with expertise in ion mobility-mass spectrometry, metabolomics, and bioinformatics! Kelly received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 2014, and underwent further training in clinical mass spectrometry at Mayo Clinic before moving to Seattle.

Welcome our summer students!

This is an exciting summer as we welcome several summer students: Brianna Morgan (Southern Oregon University) from our Pharmacological Science Summer Diversity Program, Josi Herron as a rotation student from the Environmental Toxicology graduate program, and David Lee as a student volunteer.

David Kennedy joins the lab!

David is studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Washington! He will initially focus on chromatographic separation of oxidized lipids and their characterization by NMR and mass spectrometry. Welcome!
