Corrina Cooper

Corrina hails from Cleveland, OH, and graduated from the University of Richmond with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with a concentration in neuroscience and a minor in math. As an undergraduate researcher, she worked in Dr. Warrick’s lab investigating a neurodegenerative disorder known as Machado-Joseph Disease. Using drosophila melanogaster as a model and techniques such as cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy, she worked to elucidate the relationship between disruptions in autophagy and protein aggregate formation and eventual neurotoxicity. After her undergraduate degree, she worked for Charles River Laboratories in their Bioanalytical Chemistry department, where she quantified drug levels in plasma from animal studies for new therapeutics. It is here that her love for mass spectrometry and the world of drug development really flourished, which led to her joining the University of Washington’s department of Medicinal Chemistry in the fall of 2024. In the Spring of 2025, she joined the Xu Lab, where she is combining her passion for elucidating disease mechanisms and her expertise in analytical techniques. She is currently doing research to investigate the mechanisms of BAC-induced cardiotoxicity using mouse models, LC-MS/MS, MALDI-IMS, and cardiomyocyte cell culturing. Outside of the lab, she enjoys being outside, especially near the water, hiking, biking, and kayaking. She also enjoys doing various crafts, reading fiction, watching horror movies, and going antiquing.
