This collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Philip Beachy reported identification of 7-dehydrocholesterol-derived oxysterols as antagonists of Hedgehog signaling, specifically 5,8-endoperoxide and DHCEO! Read the paper here.
Libin was appointed as an Adjunct Faculty of the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences!
Libin was appointed as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences effective on March 01, 2016.
Our paper on environmental Dhcr7 inhibitors was accepted to Toxicological Sciences!
Congrats to Josi, our former member, Rosalyn Reese, and the rest of the team on their wonderful work! This marks the first paper from our lab at UW! This paper reports the identification of quaternary ammonium compounds as potent inhibitors of Dhcr7, the same enzyme that was affected in SLOS. Check out our publication here.
7-Dehydrocholesterol oxysterols exert differential toxicity to retina-derived cells!
This collaborative work with Dr. Steven Fliesler at SUNY-Buffalo recently published on Experimental Eye Research found that photoreceptor-derived cells are the most sensitive cells to the insult of 7-DHC oxysterols. Check out the paper here.
Quynh Tran joins the lab as a volunteer!
Quynh received her B.S. in Biochemistry in 2015. She will be mostly experiencing different techniques related to neurobiology. Welcome Quynh!
Congratulations to Kelly for receiving USP Global Fellowship!
Kelly is one of three recipients of the 2015-2016 Global Fellowship by the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). This award, in the amount of $30,000, will support Kelly’s project on using Ion Mobility-Mass Spectrometry (IM-MS) for identification and characterization of drugs and excipients by their Structures. Congrats, Kelly, on being named a “USP Global Fellow”! See Press Release here.
Welcome Hideaki Tomita!
Hideaki joined our lab as a senior fellow with expertise in genetic engineering in mammalian cells and mouse, neural stem cells, and mouse behavior studies. Hideaki received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the laboratory of Dr. Mario Capecchi at the University of Utah. He then underwent further training on neuronal stem cell in the laboratory of Dr. Freda Miller at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Welcome, Hideaki!
Josi Herron joins the lab!
Josi joins us from the Graduate Program of Environmental Toxicology after rotating with us this past summer. She will be working on the effect of quaternary ammonium compounds on neurodevelopment. Welcome, Josi!
Welcome Kelly Hines!
Kelly joins our lab as a senior fellow with expertise in ion mobility-mass spectrometry, metabolomics, and bioinformatics! Kelly received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 2014, and underwent further training in clinical mass spectrometry at Mayo Clinic before moving to Seattle.
Welcome our summer students!
This is an exciting summer as we welcome several summer students: Brianna Morgan (Southern Oregon University) from our Pharmacological Science Summer Diversity Program, Josi Herron as a rotation student from the Environmental Toxicology graduate program, and David Lee as a student volunteer.
