Swedish Thing
This parody (written by Greg Crowther) is sung to the tune of
"Sweetest Thing"
(written and performed by
U2).
The Nobel Prize is a "Swedish thing" awarded annually in the areas of chemistry, physics, physiology or medicine, economics, literature, and
peace. It is arguably the most prestigious of all international awards and
is presented to recipients in person by His Majesty the King of Sweden.

The call from Stockholm took me by surprise.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
But now I'm at the airport, saying my goodbyes.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
They said, "Your research is great, so come on overseas;
We're going to give you a Nobel Prize."
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
So off I trek to get my check
And a handshake from the Swedish king.
Nobel was born in 1833.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
His family loved science, and so did he.
(Oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
His inventions made him rich, and when he died in '96,
His will established the Nobel Prize.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
So on I roam toward ABBA's home
To meet the Swedish king. To meet the Swedish king.
Chem, physics, medicine, econ, lit, and peace.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
Every fall, the winners' names are released.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
And in December, on the 10th, the day of Nobel's death,
The Laureates receive the Nobel Prize.
(Oh-oh-oh, the Swedish thing.)
Do doot doot do, do doot doot do.
Do doot doot doot doot doot doot do.
Do doot doot do, do doot doot do.
Do doot doot doot doot doot doot do.
Do doot doot do, do doot doot do. The Swedish thing.
Do doot doot doot doot doot doot do. The Swedish thing.
