Summertime in Academe
This parody (written by Greg Crowther) is sung to the tune of
"Summertime"
(written by
George Gershwin, DuBose Heyward, and Ira Gershwin
and performed by
numerous artists).
These lyrically radically repurpose the Porgy and Bess tune to consider summers from the perspective of a professor -- a professor who is busy teaching during the academic year but then has the summer "free" -- free to work on neglected manuscripts, that is.
Summertime
And the living is easy.
No more grading
Or detecting AI.
Oh, your data's rich,
And your graphs are good-looking,
So hush, now, Professor,
Don't you cry.
One of these mornings,
You're gonna rise and go lecture --
Spread your handouts 'round
And discuss syllabi.
But till that morning,
Do your damn resubmission! --
With journal reviewers standing by.
