Gear Up
In 2004 and 2005, I taught
"Musical Representations of Science and Mathematics," a three-day summer
mini-course for high school
students participating in the University of Washington's GEAR UP program. GEAR UP encourages
students from disadvantaged backgrounds to prepare for and attend college.
In essence, my course allows students
to create short songs with lyrics about a scientific or mathematical topic of their choosing. For
additional information,
please see the 2005 course
syllabus (a Microsoft Word document).
