Knockin' On Kevin's Door
This parody (written by Greg Crowther) is sung to the tune of
"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
(written and performed by
Bob Dylan).
Scientific research can be frustrating, particularly for students
used to "cookbook" labs that usually work. It's
critical to have an adviser or mentor who can offer advice and put things in
perspective.
My primary adviser in graduate school was Kevin Conley, and I knocked on his office
door quite frequently.
Kevin died in June of 2019. As a small tribute to him, I have revisited these lyrics and added a third verse.
Take this manuscript from me;
I can't revise it any more.
It's too convoluted to believe;
I guess I'll knock on Kevin's door.
CHORUS:
Knock knock knockin' on Kevin's door.
Knock knock knockin' on Kevin's door.
Knock knock knockin' on Kevin's door.
Knock knock knockin' on Kevin's door.
Put that hypothesis in the ground;
It's not predictive any more.
We'll publish in a journal of no renown
And pray for mercy from the science lords.
CHORUS
Well, every quest is bound to end;
There's not much point in keeping score.
But, as for me, I miss my friend:
Kevin Conley, age 64.
