Figure (Needs A Legend)
This parody (written by Greg Crowther) is sung to the tune of
"Dude (Looks Like A Lady)"
(written by
Desmond Child, Joe Perry, and Steve Tyler
and performed by
Aerosmith).
As you might guess, these lyrics were inspired by a
not-entirely-fun session of grading student lab reports.
Cruised into a lab down the hall.
I said, "Your papers are due -- final call."
So the students turned in their reports;
Well, they looked pretty long,
And yet one was quite short (so short)....
In my office, I was checking their graphs
When I saw one so bad I just laughed.
Took the cap off my red pen,
And I wrote, "This is wrong --
Don't you do it again!"
CHORUS:
The figure needs a legend.
Figure needs a legend.
Figure needs a legend.
Figure needs a legend.
Now what were your sampling logistics?
And did you do the proper statistics?
I'm not asking a lot,
But I don't know what you got
'Cause there's no information
Underneath this pretty plot!
CHORUS
(Here, let me show you how.)
Let me get you started.
(Here, let me show you how.)
How'd you fit that curve to the data?
(Here, let me show you how.)
Better write it down now.
(Here, let me show you how.)
Do it, do it, do it, do it!
What a funky format!
You've got to learn it, learn it, learn it, learn it!
Oh, don't get too lazy....
