Rock Me Andreas
This parody (written by Greg Crowther) is sung to the tune of
"Rock Me Amadeus"
(written by
Johann Holzel, Rob Bolland, and Ferdi Bolland
and performed by
Falco).
I wrote this as a tribute to Andreas Madlung, a plant physiologist at the University of Puget Sound (mascot: Grizz the Logger), on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
If you don’t know Andreas, I’ll give you a synopsis:
He grows his tomatoes and he grows Arabidopsis,
A modern-day Mendel at the Puget Sound --
Thompson 217 is where the action goes down!
Hamburg was his first stop; grad school in Corvallis;
Now he is a Logger, and the other schools are jealous.
A top-tier teacher with NSF grants --
He’s a total rock star for a guy who’s into plants!
CHORUS:
Andreas, Andreas, Andreas,
Andreas, Andreas, Andreas,
Andreas, Andreas, oh oh oh Andreas!
Come and rock me, Andreas!
Andreas, Andreas, Andreas,
Andreas, Andreas, Andreas,
Andreas, Andreas, oh oh oh Andreas!
Come and rock me, Andreas!
Polyploidy is a problem human cells can’t solve,
But for plants, it represents a chance to evolve.
How can extra chromosomes raise a plant’s fitness?
Figuring this out is Andreas’ business!
But now he's working hard on a different issue:
How does red light lead to growth of new tissue?
Some would find this daunting, but not “Dr. Mad” --
He’ll happily pursue it with a team of undergrads!
