All new users of the VC are encouraged to work through the tutorials sequentially (i.e., start with tutorial 1 and work your way through each of the six tutorials). Upon completing this series of tutorial, you should have a good understanding of the basic features of the VC software and related computer codes. New users should also read the Getting Started section of the manual.
- Read information provided under the command prompt, program use (VC) and the relevant application (RIO, XIO, etc.) in order to understand how to execute the necessary programs.
- Copy the provided input file (s) into your working folder (s) and review the input file (s) to understand the input parameters. It is strongly recommended that one problem is attempted at a time to avoid confusions between different input files. Make any additional comments that you may deem appropriate in the input files.
- Run the applications from the command prompt and check the output files to confirm that the program executed successfully.
- Compare the information in the output file to those in the input file. Make variations to the input parameters and examine how the output responds. This will improve the users understanding of the program operation.
- Attempt the problems given at the end of each tutorial page.
- Always make appropriate plots and try relating the calculated (predicted) results to relevant physical phenomena.
