Biophysical Parameters

The Virtual Cell software includes three alternate models to simulate double strand break (DSB) formation and repair processes (i.e., the LPL, RMR, and TLK models).  The Virtual Cell also provides models to simulate cell growth kinetics.  All model options must appear to the right of the MODEL: keyword.

Syntax:    MODEL:  CKM={model name}  DRM={model name}
Example: MODEL:  CKM=QECK  DRM=TLK

Tip: Other models included in the Virtual Cell relate the formation of lethal and non-lethal genetic alterations (point mutations and chromosome aberrations) to the induction of genetic instability, reproductive cell death and neoplastic transformation.  Estimates of the overall cell killing effects of radiation can be corrected for repopulation effects using exponential and quasi-exponential cell and tissue kinetics models.  The random breakage model (RBM) is used to relate DNA fragment size distributions (e.g., from the PFGE assay) to the estimated expected number of unrejoined DSBs per cell.
