Some research tracks are either more glamorous than others or have more significant impact on the general public. When this is the case, the story tends to get picked up by the popular press and is then covered by reporters in newspapers and magazines (e.g. U.S. News & World Report, the New York Times or Psychology Today, seen below.) These stories don't always focus on aspects of the research that scholars and professionals find most significant, but on those likely to be of greatest interest, or appeal, to the general readers of the publication.
