Title--Grading

Grading for Take-Home Midterm

The exam is worth 40 points total.  Each clip discussion is worth 20 points, with two points awarded for correct identification of the director and film and 18 points awarded for the analysis.   I will grade the analyses on the following criteria:
  • Focus—the writer focuses on one or two elements and makes an argument about the significance of those elements; the paragraphs
  • Development and Support—the writer develops his or her argument about the function of cinematic techniques, offering specific examples from the clip; the writer provides a balance between analysis and film citation, linking each reference to the text to his or her overall argument.
  • Complexity—the writer interprets the clip rather than summarizing the film’s plot.
  • Clarity—the writer’s sentences are clear and largely error-free.
