Overview

Estimating biological parameters using measured (experimental) Survival data (RMR model).

Example 20.1

An example of estimating the biological parameters: The repair half time for the slow and fast repair halftimes of DSB (RHT) , the fraction of DSB that are complex (FCB)  and  the probability that a misrejoined DSB is lethal (PHI) for the RMR model.

Data preprocessed in example 19.1 is used to run the parameter estimation calculation for E-coli using the input file
ecoli.inp and the batch file fit.bat to obtain the output file ecoli.out.

Results show that the estimated parameters are:

RHT  = 0.15 h
PHI = 0.24
FCB = 0.2

The goodness of fit for the survival data measured and predicted

Suggested problems
  1. Change the error tolerance in the input file given in example 20.1 and observe the effect on the optimized parameters.
  2. Compare the running time of VC for 1, 2 and 3 parameter fits. Compare the accuracy and acceptability of the optimized parameters.
  3. List three methods of checking the accuracy of a parameter fit using the information given in the VC output.

Tips: None at this time.
