Installing the Virtual Cell

In this section, a set of specific instructions are provided to ensure that the VC software quickly becomes usable on your personal computer.  These instructions will also help you recognize other computer configurations that may work on your computer as well.

A Basic File Structure (Installation)

The creation of a specific file structure in your computer is recommended as illustrated below. Simply establishing this folder structure and copying the necessary files in place as outlined and making the system configurations completes the installation of VC. To uninstall VC, simply delete these files and folders (do not delete any files or folders that existed in your computer prior to the installation and do not format the hard drive)

xdat, lpl, rmr and tlk folders contain the necessary input files to run the sample problems provided. The lpl folder contains the input files using the lpl model and so on. These input files and their use are discussed elsewhere in this document (understanding the use of these input files is not necessary at the time of installation).

Tip: The outlined folder structure is recommended, but not necessary.
