Grading Policy

Grading Policy

Grades are a measure of your understanding of the course ideas and theories. Your course grade will be based on the written assignments (95%) and your group and individual participation (5%) and will be assigned at the end of winter quarter.

Revising and resubmitting work: Papers can be revised and resubmitted for full credit. This is actually built into the first assignment (RP part 1), which will be submitted in final form with Part 2. The rest of the quarter is very tight. If you anticipate wanting to resubmit, you may need to hand in your first attempt earlier than the due date and talk with the instructor about turnaround time. All written work must be turned in by Friday, March 14 at 4:30. No work will be accepted after that date unless the student qualifies for an incomplete (in good standing within 2 weeks of the end of the course + major life emergency, illness, or trauma). Think of this quarter as a good opportunity to hone your organizational and time management skills!

Late work: Papers that are handed in on the due date will be returned in one week, in most cases. Papers that are turned in after the due date will be graded as we can work them into our schedules. It’s a tight quarter: let’s all try to avoid last-minute pile-ups of work!

Samples of written work from previous students can be seen here.

The Relational Pedagogy (RP) assignments will receive the following weighting in the course grade:

  • Part 1:  Getting to Know Your Students:  The Plan (15%);

  • Part 2:  Getting to Know Your Students:  The Plan, Its Implementation, and Evaluation: How Well Did It Work?  (30%);

  • Part 3:  Working More Effectively with All Students (30%).

Future Classroom Plans: 20% of your final grade.

Participation: Includes planning and presenting a warmup activity and participation in home groups. 5%

To calculate your grade, you can use the following:

            RP #1                 _______ x .15 = ________

            RP #2                 _______ x .30 = ________

            RP #3                 _______ x .30 = ________

            Future Classroom      _______ x .20 = ________
