We will do something different in class today; please watch the first disk of Kano by Umin Boya (黃志翔)on reserve at the Media Arcade on the third floor of Allen Library. We will watch the second disk in class, and talk about the "civilizing" effects of Japan in Taiwan society.

READINGS ASSIGNMENT
By 8:00 a.m on Friday, February 5, please post 200-400 words on why many Taiwanese consider baseball to be "the national game," given that it was introduced by Japanese colonialists who themselves adopted it from America.
