The Internet preserves conversations. Let us go back to the morning of 9/11. We know exactly what people were saying when
the tragedy occurred. Here are a couple
of conversations [Warning: Some of the
reactions are raw- sensitive information.]
Obviously, we don't know what people were saying when we had
tragedies in the past of the same magnitude- e.g. Pearl Harbor.
9/11 also demonstrated the waning power of newspapers. The incidents took place early in the
morning. Yet, most newspapers were able
to report it the next morning- i.e., almost 24 hours after the incident. Internet and TV emerged as complimentary
media.
