Winter 2006

During Winter Quarter 06, the seminar discussed the US transportation sector. Topics included: alternative engine design, renewable transportation fuels, and transportation planning (e.g. mass transit).

Autumn 2005

During Autumn Quarter 05, the seminar focused on oil. After a discussion of basic oil resource concepts, the seminar read the first half of the Pulitzer-prize winning oil history, "The Prize".

Spring 2005

For Spring Quarter 05, the seminar will be discussing the prospects for ocean energy (wave and tidal current) both locally and around the world. Discussion of readings and presentations by outside speakers.

Winter 2005

For Winter Quarter 05, the seminar theme will be trends and advances in solar energy. Round table discussions will be held on readings involving solar PV, solar thermal electricity, and solar energy for residential use and space heating.

Reading for January 20 seminar. Read NREL paper first. Discussion of organic PV may begin, but will likely continue in January 27 seminar.

Autumn 2004

The theme for Autumn 04 will be Energy in the Forest and Paper Products Industry. Speakers from the Weyerhaeuser Technology Center and the UW will cover a range of topics dealing with how the industry uses energy, energy conservation, environmental control, and new opportunities and developments for displacing fossil fuels with biomass and bio-fuels. The organizers are Dr. Ken Nichols of the Weyerhaeuser Technology Center and Prof. Phil Malte of the UW.
