DegreesStudents interested in energy may choose from BS, MS, and PhD degrees offered by the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. See the department and faculty links on this web site for information. Mechanical Engineering offers the student a range of instruction and research on energy conversion, including energy thermodynamics, low-emission combustion, renewable energy and fuel cell technology, and building energy and energy conservation. Electrical Engineering treats the electrical fundamentals and practices of energy, including electrical power generation and distribution, electrical devices and drives, and advanced power systems engineering. Chemical Engineering offers several areas of instruction and research on fuel cell engineering as well as on energy in the chemical process and fuels industries. These departments also treat the environmental consequences of energy conversion and use. Students with particular interest in air quality associated with energy, and in water quality and the use of water, should visit the Civil and Environmental Engineering web site. Within the College of Arts and Sciences, degrees in Chemistry and Physics can provide the student with excellent background and knowledge for the study of energy and its environmental consequences. Additionally, the Atmospheric Sciences Department and the College of Oceans and Fisheries Science can provide the student an excellent background and knowledge for exploring the environmental consequences of energy. Degree programs on environmental studies and environmental science can also provide background and opportunities for the study of energy. The Program on the Environment (PoE) offers a BA in Environmental Studies, and through the resources track of this degree, the student can study energy and environment. The Bothell and Tacoma campuses of the UW offer a BS in Environmental Science. For UW Bothell see: For UW Tacoma see: Back to TopConcentrations and CertificatesThe ME Department offers an undergraduate Concentration in Energy and Environment. Students interested in this Concentration may select courses on energy from ME and other departments.
The Program on the Environment (PoE) administers Graduate Certificates in a number of areas that relate to energy. These are: Back to Top | |
