FacilitiesThe Laboratory for Energy and Environmental Combustion, consisting of about 2000 square feet, contains the following areas:
Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and chemical reactor network (CRN) modeling is performed on dual Xeon® processor platforms. The commercial CFD software currently used is FLUENT®. The atmospheric pressure combustion experiments include 16 and 64 cc jet-stirred reactors (JSRs) and a flat flame burner. The laboratory-scale staged prevaporizing-premixing injector (SPP) is available for use on either of the JSRs. The high-pressure combustion experiments are supported an oil-less air compressor rated for 800 pounds per hour flow rate at 350 psig pressure. Process gas analyzers for NO and NOx, CO, CO2, and O2, and a gas chromatograph support all of the combustion experiments. Also supporting these experiments are data loggers, laboratory computers, mass flow controllers, and thermocouple instrumentation. The laser systems include:
