Exercises:

The 4 in class exercises involve: map identifications (12 sites, including cities, political boundaries, and natural formations), and a series of true/false, multiple choice, and/or fill-ins on the main points of the readings. We will drop the lowest grade. The quizzes are on the following Thursdays: January 13th, January 27th, February 17th and March 2nd.

Assignments:

We will hand out three credit/no-credit assignments throughout the quarter. Each of these will be full credit (7 points), partial credit (3 points), or no credit based on the quality and timeliness of work. We will use the assignments for in-class discussion on the day they are due. Attendance is required on the days assignments are due in order to receive full credit.

Each of these assignments are designed to equip you with the skills necessary for the poster assignment which will form the final project for the course.

Poster Project:

You will be expected to create a poster board critically examining press coverage of an urban development issue that interests you. Section activities are designed to help you develop this project. Final project presentations will take place Thursday, March 9th.    Link to Poster Project Assignment (# 4).

Reading:

We will be discussing the assigned readings each week in section so come to section prepared to participate. Quizzes will be based on the readings. We encourage you to read critically and bring any questions or relevant comments you have to share with the class.
