Written Work Students will do two types of writing assignments: responses and two short papers. Responses are one-page (typed) essays you will write in response to specific questions on readings and/or films. The idea is to process the readings, exercise critical thinking and develop perspectives in writing. We are looking for your progress in advancing interesting, informed arguments, and your willingness to try out ideas and follow them through. Responses will be graded on a check-plus, check, check-minus system. We will not accept late responses; documented medical excuses are the only exception. Failure to submit responses on time will result in a grade of zero for the assignment.Tests There will be a brief midterm during the course and a final exam at the end. Regular Class Participation The thoughtful participation
of all is required. This means listening well to classmates as well
as contributing to class and group discussions; students should come to
each class session prepared to discuss films and readings.
