Great Wall at Badaling → Ming Tombs
The Badaling Great Wall, 6700KM long, is the longest defense wall on the earth. The construction started in different places around 2500 years ago to separate Central China from northern Nomadic invaders. The walls were rebuilt and extended later Dynasties. Different sections were connected around 1573 to 1620 by the Ming Dynasties. Badaling Great Wall, built during Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and some 80KM north of Beijing, is the best known section of the Great Wall. Badaling, a strategic pass leading into Beijing, means “from here can you go everywhere”.
Some 50KM northwest of Beijing, 13 tombs of emperors and empresses of Ming Dynasty spread around a valley that looks like a natural courtyard with an entrance guarded by huge, mythical, stone animals. In Chinese geomatic omen, it is supposedly the ideal place to locate the tomb. Ming tombs were first built in 1409. Over 200 years of Ming’s rule, 13 emperors, 23 empresses and one concubine were buried here. Of the tombs only the underground burial chambers of the Dingling tombs, the mausoleum of Ming Emperor Wanli who reigned from 1573 to 1620 were opened to the public after excavation in 1956.

Tiananmen Square → Forbidden City → Summer Palace
The square, located at the center of Modern Beijing, is 500 meters wide(ease to west) and 880 meters long (south to north). Being the largest square in the world, it can hold more than 500,000 people. The Gate of Heavenly Peace(Tiananmen)33.7 meters high, is an imposing symbol of the City as well as China, with huge reviewing podium and tower, crowed by a glazed tile roof.
First built by more than 200,000 men in the 15th century for the third Ming emperor (Yongle), 24 emperors of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties had lived here. During the two dynasties the City was rebuilt and renovated many times, but always according to the original design. Inside the Forbidden City, you may wonder that in the days when no modern means of transportation and communications existed, how an emperor was able to effectively exercise his power in different corners of his vast territory.
The Summer Palace has the best collections of the Chinese gardens. For over 800 years, it was by the imperial court as a summer resort and a venue for extravagant celebrations. The classic Kunming lake covers the three quarters of the park’s 290 hectares. At the foot of the longevity Hill, are the imperial residents, filled with Cixi’s (a powerful empress dowager of Qing Dynasties) furniture and personal belongings. One building contains a theater museum that recalls the empress’s passion for theatricals, and in the garage is the first automobile imported into China, a Mercede Benz! Among other attractions are the Marble Boat, once a teahouse, the long Corridor and the 444,000kg bronze pavilion.
