Results of Model 4

Results of Standard model

We explored the effects on ammonia consumption and temperature in the reactor of changing five different parameters:

Inlet temperature

Reaction rate

Inlet flow rate

Heat generation at the walls

Except where stated otherwise, all models shared the same geometry and initial and boundary conditions (standard conditions).

In the following discussion of the sensitivity of the model to different parameters, only those figures that vary from the results of the standard model are discussed.

The results are summarized in two kinds of figures: contour plots and line plots. In contour plots, the entire geometry included in the model is shown. The values of whichever parameter is being plotted are matched with corresponding colors and then contours are drawn in those colors to indicate regions of equal value.

Note that with all contour plots, if we had modeled the entire channel, instead of just the bottom half, the contour plot would be symmetric about the line y=0.5.

Line plots show only a one-dimensional cut through the channel and look more like traditional plots. Be sure to check the accompanying text to see the location and direction of the plot.
