Collecting microstratigraphy samples

Monticello Landscape Study - Virginia

In collaboration with Fraser Neimen, Director of the Archaeology at Monticello, sediment and chemical research is ongoing to investigate the agricultural practices of Thomas Jefferson and their impacts on erosion, alluviation, and soil fertility. Recently micromorphological samples have been examined to determine the magnitude of topsoil erosion resulting from introduction of the plow. Work has been supported by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation.
