Wednesday, April 26: Farming Wrapup and Group Projects

Today we wind up our unit on sustainability and agriculture with three activities:

  • We report to Francis on what we found out in Wenatchee and Leavenworth. This is more than just telling Bob what he missed on a beautiful day in the Other Other Washington; it is an opportunity for the rest of us to systematize and consolidate our thoughts on our first attempt to look at sustainability issues in the context of actual, concrete case studies, and to look for parallels to how similar ideas might be applied to the group projects.
  • We examine some of the massive numbers of readings suggested by Kent Mullinix from the website of Professor John E. Ikerd on sustainable agriculture. Rather than assigning any one paper, we're suggesting that people browse, read a couple, and bring insights or questions gained to the class.
  • We hear brief reports from each of the three project groups on how you are now conceiving your work, after you have had a week to think about it and talk to people about it.
