Black: correlation (times -1) of solar radiation with MLD variability at the TAO buoys.
This correlation determines the sign and phase of the combined forcing
term F/H in equation (1') of the modified S96 model. (The time series of
F and H that this correlation is based on are shown
in Figs.15 and 16).
Red: Mean EB model SST during year 10 (as in Figs.17 and 18). Note the
close connection between the SST growth and the solar-MLD correlation.
In the east the SST is relatively larger due to the shallow mean MLD
there (green curve).
