RESPITE SERVICESIn 1998, Fircrest began providing respite services to developmentally disabled clients who live in the community. The program was extremely successful and, in 1999, fifty three clients received 1964 days of respite services.
Planned Respite Some clients (or their families) simply need a
break. The client can come to Fircrest for a two week
"vacation". While they are here, they are assigned to a specific
unit and live, work, and play as a part of the family. A full
medical/dental and psychological evaluation of the client is
conducted. All services that Fircrest provides to its permanent
clients are made available to the short term respite clients while they
are here and even after they have left by receiving services through our
Outreach Program. |
Responding to Individuals in Crisis Other respite clients come to Fircrest in severe crisis and their providers unable to support them. A Fircrest interdiscplinary team with expertise in dealing with difficult client problems provides the support required to stabilize the situation. Some clients have returned to the community provider quickly, while others have remained at Fircrest waiting for an appropriate community placement. |
