414 Information Behavior
Debate
The class will engage in a debate regarding the assumptions behind the system- and user-oriented approaches to the study of information needs and uses.
Students will be selected to represent either the user- or the system-oriented perspective and will debate the strengths of each approach.
The debate will be structured according to the categories of assumptions that Dervin and Nilan (1986) identified. A summary of these assumptions appears on the attached sheet.
