Communicating science to the public is probably not my strong point but in Fall 2013 I was fortunate enough to participate in a 2 day COMPASS Training for science outreach run by Liz Neeley and initiated and funded by the Dean of the College of the Environment, Lisa Graumlich. It was a lot of fun but I still have not had the nerve to watch the video from my mock TV interview. I did start tweeting both under @WilliamWilcock for myself and inconsistently under @UWOcean for the School of Oceanography.
In February, 2014 I participated in the 19th annual Sound Waters: A one day university or all – on all things Puget Sound where I lectured on fin whales and ran a graphical exercise to locate fin whales – after printing out the exercise, you will need a drawing compass. Let me know how it goes.
My grad student Michelle Weirathmueller has a really neat blog.
