Class Schedule: Week 7, Resilience and Environmental Management

Recently, it seems like resource managers have all adopted ideas about ecosystem management and its supposed contribution to resilience. We will examine their rationale and their case studies.

Monday, May 13: We will begin rather theoretically, and look at some of the rationales for ecosystem-based management and its relationship to Resilience. Read the following two articles, and by 10:00 a.m. please post 200-300 words on why you think ecosystem-based management might or might not lead to greater resilience than traditional, species-based management. Wednesday, May 15: We will examine case studies from all over. You should first read Holling and Meffe on pathologies of resource management, and then pick any two of the following or others that you find on your own to look at closely, and by 10:00 a.m. please post short evaluations of how each of the studies you picked illustrates the principles set out in the articles you read for Monday the 13th:
