Substantia Nigra Neurons

Cell body located in the substantia nigra (part of the midbrain). This neuron was labeled with a chemical called DiI. The DiI was injected into the caudate nucleus and transported back to this cell in the substantia nigra. This is an example of retrograde transport. The substantia nigra is an important area of the brain for controlling movement.
Neuron located in the substantian nigra, labeled with tyrosine hydroxylase (the enzyme that converts tyrosine to L-dopa).
