Neuroscience Treasure Hunt - #4

Treasure -- Treasure -- Treasure

Treasure Hunt #4 is now closed!

Please try Treasure Hunt #5

Do I have your attention now? Here is a contest, a game, a challenge.

Your job is to find the answers to 10 questions related to the brain and nervous system. All of the answers can be found right here on the pages of "Neuroscience for Kids." Send me an e-mail (chudler@u.washington.edu) when you have found all of the answers.

It's easy! If you send me the correct answers to all of the questions, you will win the Golden Neuron Award.

"What is the Golden Neuron Award?," you ask? It is NOT fame, fortune and a new car. The Golden Neuron Award () is recognition on a SPECIAL PAGE. (You can see the winners of treasure hunt #2 and treasure hunt #3 on their own special pages.)

Treasure hunt #4 is open right now...

[email] Send your answers to me (Dr. Eric H. Chudler) at chudler@u.washington.edu. Include whatever information about yourself that you want posted on this page (name, grade, school, age). If you don't want your name posted, just say so.

Winners with the correct answers will be listed on the GOLDEN NEURON AWARD PAGE.

[PRIVACY NOTICE]

Treasure Hunt #4 is more difficult than any of the previous hunts. Here are the questions:

  1. Name ONE function of the cerebral cortex.
  2. Approximately how long is the spinal cord in men and women?
  3. What is the name of the brain scanning method that uses radio waves and magnetic fields?
  4. Name ONE of the twelve cranial nerves. (Your answer should be a word, not a number. For example, the answer "Cranial nerve II" is not acceptable.)
  5. Name ONE layer of the meninges. (Remember, the meninges are the special tissues that cover the brain.)
  6. Name ONE of the bones in the middle ear.
  7. Name ONE neurotoxin and the animal that produces it.
  8. What lobe of the brain is concerned primarily with hearing?
  9. Name ONE drug that affects the nervous system.
  10. What is the name of a bump or bulge on the surface of the cerebral cortex?

Can you answer these questions? If so, go for the gold...the Golden Neuron Award, that is.

Send your answers to me (Eric H. Chudler) at chudler@u.washington.edu.
