GFO Curriculum Committee Processes
Procedure (for new course prefixes, new courses, course changes,
program changes)
Steps:
- Fill out the proper form:
- A new course form, a course change form, and the
distance learning supplement can be found at
the main GFO curriculum page.
- New prefix -- create a memo requesting the prefix,
signed by the usual suspects (program director, GFO curriculum
committee chair, school's dean). In the memo, state what the
prefix will be for (specific or general program), brief rationale,
and what the exact prefix will be (up to 6 characters including
spaces).
Note that program changes usually go through other committees and
get to the Curriculum committee eventually. What needs to
be done varies with the kind of change.
- Send the form electronically to the GFO coordinator
(Barbara Van Sant, bvansant@uwb.edu).
When the form is approved by the GFO curriculum committee:
- Print the form on properly colored paper:
- New course -- orchid/lavender paper.
- Course change -- tan paper.
- Distance Learning supplement -- white paper is okay.
- Get the director (and any affected programs' director) to sign the
official form after the curriculum committee approves it.
The program is responsible for form correctness. (See
Notable Format Rules for help with correctness.)
The chair/director takes responsibility that
- the program's curriculum committee (or equivalent unit) has
evaluated the curricular issue,
- and other programs affected by the curricular issue have
been consulted (have signed form).
- Make seven white copies after the chair/director(s) signs off
on the properly colored form.
(Note that only the directors' signatures are
needed on the copies.)
- Take the original and the seven white copies to the GFO Coordinator.
- Mistakes -- return corrected originals
and copies to the GFO Coordinator .
If corrections need to be made, the program office is given
the originals and all copies and is responsible for doing
the above steps ... correctly this time.
The program should be prompt so the corrected forms can be
submitted to Seattle in a timely manner.
