LIS 510: Information Behavior

In class, you shared your information need and your reflections with a classmate. You learned about basic concepts in information behavior such as:

• information need, want and demand

• stages of development in an information need

• types of information needs

• information seeking,

(1) Now, reflect on the information behavior situation that you described in Assignment 1A with regard to these concepts. Also, describe how you used the information, and how you were helped or not helped by that information.

(2) Reflect on a recent incident in which you gave someone information (can be about anything). Frame your answers to the following questions in terms of what you learned in class about information giving:

• How you determined that someone needed information?

• What type of information was needed and how did you determine the type?

• Were you asked directly or indirectly?

• How did you obtain the information?

• How did you disseminate it?

• How did you think it would help that person?
