in Education

Winter 2009

Wednedays 4:30-6:50pm, Miller Hall 320

Grading Policy

Three types of work will receive grades and contribute to your final grade in the course:

  1. Go-Post Discussion participation (25%)
  2. Compare & Contrast Paper (25%)
  3. Term Project (50%)
Each of these is described in more detail on a separate page on the course website).

The compare and contrast paper requires you to consider competing views on some aspect of motivation, drawing on several of the readings from two different perspectives. The grade will be based on your demonstrated understanding of the two perspectives and the extent to which you adequately support your claims about them. This work will both strengthen your understanding of the theories and contribute to your thinking about your term project. Papers that are submitted on time will be returned within one week. Papers may be revised and resubmitted up to the final deadline for written work.

The term project requirements include a prospectus, a rough draft, and a final draft, each with its own due date. The prospectus must be approved prior to the rough draft submission, and the rough draft must be approved before the final paper may be submitted. Work turned in on or before the due date will be returned within one week, and may be revised and resubmitted. NOTE: For a chance to revise and resubmit the final project, it must be turned in no later than one week prior to the due date.

Late work: Late work will be accepted, but it may take me longer than a week to return it. Towards the end of the quarter, it is possible that late work may not be returned in time to revise and resubmit. NO WORK will be accepted after the final deadline for written work. In the case of major life catastrophe or illness, students who are in good standing as of two weeks prior to the end of the grading period may negotiate to receive an incomplete. (Procrastination does not qualify as a major life catastrophe or illness.)

Final deadline for written work is March 13 at 5pm.
