I'm so pleased for Katy (Sieffert) Mayer who writes:
And for Mike McCool, it seems that things keep getting stranger: 1st photo: spaceman
Mike at Taroko Gorge; and better: 2nd photo, with Jessica (one big ]the?] reason he's staying put for now!)
So, all you other NWC students (there are hundreds of you by this time). Keep me and all of us posted. Have fun and stay safe.
And then there's the news from Raychel OHare (2000-2001). The length makes up for the long silence!):
Hello everyone!! As you can see, this is a fabulous mass-email.
However, I will try to keep it short and relatively interesting. And
for those of you to whom I have not spoken with in quite a while (I'm
REALLY sorry - and lazy), here is my current life status, I have not
fallen of the face of the Earth but I did move to California... so I
guess that's close!
So, here's the deal, last year as I was doing ESL with elementary
school kids I thought to myself - hmmm I enjoy what I'm doing, but I'd
rather be doing something environmental, especially since I'm already
broke! So, I found (rather on accident and for the 2nd time) a place
called Camp High Trails online and got really excited, applied and
hired. Now, I am in my sixth week as a So. Cal semi-resident teaching
environmental science to 6th graders (outdoor school). I am living in
the Big Bear area of California (in the San Bernardino Mountains, about
an hour and a half outside of LA) at 7,000ft (yeah, very little oxygen)
and I get paid to hike kids around the forest, sing, go to campfire,
teach about the Ozone Layer and how to save it and hopefully make a
difference. It's a tough gig, but someone has to do it! I work with a
ton of great people from all over (mainly the midwest and east coast)
and have been able to visit Joshua Tree National Park, Baja Mexico,
some cool local spots and been evacuated for a fire (no worries, our
camp was fine). So, I guess that is my life in a nut shell at the
moment.
News from From: Katherine (Seifert) Mayer
Subject: Big news!
It's official! Zach and I will be moving to Philadelphia, PA in July
where Katy will be attending Temple University School of Medicine for the
next four years!!! Very exciting! ...
And a tad bit more of exciting news...we are heading to Peru and Bolivia
for the months of April and May. We plan to do a little trekking in the
Andes and visit some missionary friends and hopefully venture on into the
jungle! Should be an adventure.
Hope all is well with you all! Thanks again!
Un beso,
---Katy and Zach Mayer
UPDATE: They've bought a "cute little row house in South Philly"; Katy has started med school
and Zach is working from home for a Redmond business management applications company. Here's their new digs:
Suzy
Well, I just wanted to drop a quick line to let everyone know what I am
doing. I hope you are doing well, please let me know what's new with
you if you have a sec.
=) Raychel
P.S. Please pass this on to anyone who you think might want it (I
probably didn't have their email).
P.P.S. Address (should you want to send me something, wink wink):
Raychel O'Hare, Camp Nawakwa, PO Box 1147, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305
P.P.P.S. (oh there's more) After getting stuck in the mud and driving
over rough terrian on a regular basis, I have revitalized my search for
a sturdier vehicle (big surprise, Raychel wants a truck). So, if you
happen to know someone who is selling something resembling the
following in good condition, for a fair price, please let me know (I
will be back in WA for the holidays).
Wish list: '80s model Toyota 4runner, good engine, straight body, under
200K, preferably 4cyl.
OR '90-94 Toyota pick-up xcab, 4x4, preferably 4cyl, good engine,
straight body, under 200k
THANKS!! =)
