Our
first 10 days in Cádiz:
Things we do...Places we go..
Rose, Ashley and Wendi at the Roman ruins
adjacent to the Playa de Bolonia (where it was so hot and windy we
couldn’t sunbath)
So we went up the
coast a ways to Zahara de los Atunes, where the Playa de los alemanes provided
more protection from the wind. Even so, after 3 hours we’d had enough sand
blasting, so a quick photo (20 cameras!) and on to Vejer.
insert group photo:
Vejer de la Frontera – once a border b/w Muslim and
Christian Spain – gave us a good view of the surrounding countryside. Like all
the frontier towns in the Sierra, this one is all white and strategically
located on the highest outcropping around.
We wandered around, caught a wedding party on the way into the church
and wondered about the star of David on the church façade. Amber, Alisha and Alejandra gaze down from
the battlements.
Ryan, Alisha and Anna pause for a picture
Alejandra and Juan (one of 6 Spanish friends who accompanied us)
Rose, Ashley and David
Back in Cádiz, guess who drops in to renew old friendships!… Marina Sheldon and her sister (NW Cádiz 1997-1998)
First stop, Juan Reyes’ bar…. to remember old times. New painting on the wall. Can you find Juan in it?
we visit Carmen Tejera’s Dance academy. Since then we’ve had our first class (9-19-2000),
though we weren’t really shod quite correctly (tennis shoes, boots, whatever…). Carmen will whip the dancers
into shape regardless.
Kristy in the foreground. Lisa, Alvorada, Bryn, Adam, Raychel, Alejandra, Asheley and others look on.
Next time, some photos from ceramics class and maybe we’ll get to see Raychel and Latisha with new guitars.
