Professor Dobel joined the Evans School in 1985 after teaching for a decade at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He received his Ph.D. in Politics and Political Philosophy. His interests concern a wide area, encompassing the intersection of politics and institutions with personal ethics. He teaches Public Management, Leadership Seminars, and in the Integrated Management Sequence. He also offers classes in Administrative Ethics and Ethics and Public Policy. His research focuses upon leadership, managerial strategy, public management, and ethics in public life. He is the author of many academic articles on public ethics as well as articles in journals of opinion. His books Compromise and Political Action: Political Morality in Liberal and Democratic Life and Public Integrity study the reality of ethics in public life. He has chaired the King County Ethics Board and has served as a consultant on management, leadership and ethics issues to numerous public and nonprofit agencies.
