Title--Web Project

Annotated Bibliography

Due: Friday, February 16, by 4:00 p.m. in hard copy or via email or Web form

Assignment

The annotated bibliography assignment is designed to help you begin gathering sources for your Web project and thinking about how those sources connect to your topic. The annotated bibliography should have at least four entries.  For each entry, do the following:

  • Write a citation for the source in MLA format.  If you are not familiar with MLA format, click here for instructions.
  • After the citation, summarize the source’s main argument and briefly describe how the writer supports that argument.
  • Following the summary, explain how you plan to use the source in your project.  Does the source provide interpretations of evidence on which you’ll draw?  Does the source present an argument counter to your own?  Has the source raised questions for you?  How has your argument changed as a result of reading the source?
Grading

Since the purpose of this assignment is to articulate and receive feedback on your thoughts regarding your sources, I will grade this assignment credit/no credit.  An annotated bibliography that receives full credit has the following qualities:

  • Includes all of the elements
  • Has a complete description of the source’s argument and support
  • Contains clear explanation of how the source will influence the Web project
  • Expresses ideas clearly
  • Has a sophisticated style (remarkable variety of sentence patterns, smooth transitions between ideas, superior control of diction)
  • Has few, if any, minor errors in grammar, usage or mechanics
