Lac Lalolalo
Pictures don’t do Lac Lalolalo justice. It is a magnificent place shrouded in myths that made our local guides uneasy at the lake shore. There are blind white eels in the water and huge fruit bats in the sky.
We collected sediment cores, water samples, plankton, and suspended particles. Jean-Yves Meyer helped us identify all the plants growing around the lake.

Climb
There is no oxygen below 10m in the lake water and water we pulled up from 80m “boiled” like a carbonated beverage. It was smelly too (like rotten eggs) from hydrogen sulfide.
