What is the CARE program?

CARE (Compassion, Awareness, Resilience, and Empowerment) is a project I am working on to create an accessible portal into self-care practices to help people build well-being and resilience. I developed it due to the overwhelming array of resources available online or in-person around self-care and well-being, making it challenging to know where to start.

The CARE program comprises of guided group training sessions where participants are introduced to tools and techniques to improve self-care knowledge and prevent or alleviate burnout. The program is delivered in either four or eight in-person sessions to promote communal learning. A dedicated website provides additional resources like selected videos, articles, guided meditations, and CARE is divided into four modules focusing on evidence-based practices related to specific themes:

You can read more about theory behind the CARE in this article published in Journal of Nursing Education and Practice.   Here I write about the CARE in the context of nursing, but it can be adapted to other contexts.  So far I have taught CARE to faculty and staff at the University of Washington, Tacoma (UWT) and to staff from Tacoma Public Schools.  Below is a lightning talk I presented at UWT about the CARE.
