Welcome to the Companion  Website for my book “Fundamentals of Engineering Design”, 2nd Edition, Prentice-Hall, 2003

This site is a work in progress. Check back regularly for updates. I am constructing four main components to this site. Click either on the link  below or on the topic listed on the left side of this page.

1.     An errata sheet for the book.  My most recent update to this was 4/1/03.  If you find any other errors in the book, I would appreciate it if you would please send me an e-mail so that I can  update the errata sheet.

2.     A set of PowerPoint Slides consisting of every figure and table in the book, plus key discussion topics in outline form, plus supplementary  materials including additional worked-out example problems. This link was updated on 3/16/04.

3.     An interactive instructor’s manual in the form of a Mathcad Electronic Book.  Here is the link to a Preview of the E-Book in the form of a .pdf file.  Here is Version 2 of the E-Book, posted 11/24/03.  It replaces Version 1 posted on 11/8/03.  Version 2 contains 20 exercise files, with at least one exercise for each section in Chapters 1 and 2.  This is in comparison to only seven exercises contained in Version 1.  Also, broken links have been repaired and the graphics have been redone to substantially reduce file size.  The zip file for Version 2 has 480 kB, compared to 963 kB for Version 1.

Additional versions will be posted as they are developed.  If you wish the E-Book to be accessed from the Mathcad Resources toolbar, you should download it to the Mathcad11\Handbook folder.  Otherwise, you can download it to any location and access it from the Mathcad Help menu.

If you are not already a Mathcad user, faculty and students using the textbook can download a free, fully-functional trial of Mathcad. You will be able to use the trial version of Mathcad for 120 days by filling out a simple form.  This feature became available 5/1/03.

4.     This is the website for ME 395, the course that I teach using this book as the text.
