Mathematically - Modeling the Reactor

Design Equations can be derived from mole balances for each component in the reactor and an energy balance over the entire reactor. To derive the flow design equations, it is first necessary to understand the rate laws of ethylene conversion. The rate laws for the high pressure polymerization reaction are quite complicated and are not shown here, but please click reaction mechanism to view how the rate laws are derived. The final results of the energy balances are shown below:

where the first term in the heat balance (EQUATION 4) represents the energy in the system,the second term represents the heat energy in the wall,the first two terms in the right hand side of the equation represent the energy entering and leaving the reactor, and the last term represents the heat generated from the reaction. The mole balances are explained in the reaction mechanism.
