"Brendan"

Brendan Saxberg: UW undergraduate student

Brendan joined the ultracold atoms group in early 2012. He was a guileless Indiana farm lad, eager to help in the advancement of science...

They were unscrupulous experimentalists, willing to stop at nothing in overcoming the looming funding setbacks due to sequestration...

After many dark hours in the lab (and the help of IGOR, of course) the Brendan Saxberg Laser was created. Brendan still has the cheerful and calm attitude he did before. He still works at setting up the electronics and the data acquisition system for the new ytterbium-only machine. He can still probably get your computer working. But now he also emits monochromatic radiation at the 399 nm wavelength perfect for the broad ytterbium transition.

If you find yourself in the lab in Brendan's presence, do not be alarmed. But please wear protective goggles and - for the love of all that is holy - DON'T LOOK INTO HIS EYES!
