Course Objectives: This course is intended to provide you with an understanding of the fundamentals and technologies associated with the use of information systems to provide efficient and effective solutions to business problems.

Course Goals: This course has been designed with three goals in mind. First, we feel that a basic understanding of foundation concepts is critical to using information systems to successfully apply them within a business. These concepts include trends, components, and roles of information systems and competitive advantage concepts and applications.

The second major goal is the understanding of information technologies and business applications. Learning how the Internet, intranets, extranets, and other information technologies work and are used in business enterprises to support electronic business and commerce, team and enterprise collaboration, and business decision making.

Lastly, understanding the development process is important. The process of developing and implementing business strategies and systems using several strategic and application development tools fulfills this goal.

Requirements: You will be working in teams to complete 3 projects (project details will be available as separate documents). Each project will have a set of requirements defined for it. Grading will be based on how well your team’s solution meets or exceeds the specific requirements. Projects that meet these requirements will earn a 3.4. Projects that fail to meet these requirements will receive a lower grade. It is possible to get a higher grade by adding additional features. If you choose to provide additional features, the specific choice of features is totally up to the team to determine. The degree of difficulty of these additional features (as determined by the instructor) will determine how much above 3.4 the project will earn.

In addition, there will be one examination (short-answer type) that will be used to evaluate your understanding of the main topics covered during the course.

Your final grade will be computed with each project weighted at 25% and the exam weighted at 25%.
