Podcast and Vodcast Video Resolution and Sound Quality
Videos and Audio files may be saved in various levels of quality. The higher the quality, the higher the size of files.
The following images are of the UWTV broadcast of "Embracing Fitness: Training for a Half Marathon." The highest resolution files available on UWTV.org's site was downloaded (uw_hl_halfma_1300k.asf) and was then converted into MP4 format with iPod Video Converter by Jodix.com.
130,867,322 bytes 131MB |
328,882,558 bytes 329MB |
The difference in quality is noticeable when images are side-by-side. The lower resolution video file is less than half the size of the higher resolution one.
Technical notes
Please note that there were technical problems while playing files converted to .mp4 with Pod Video Converter by Jodix.com and other similar conversion programs. Errors manifested as pauses and muting of sound seen in the movie displayed above. Sound returned if you fast forwarded or rewound the film.
QuickTime Pro made .m4v files that worked fine on iPod without the technical difficulties seen above. Since QuickTime can not view .asf files, files were first converted to .mp4 with Pod Video Converter by Jodix.com and then converted to .mp4 format with QuickTime. The end file size was around 286,897,381 bytes regardless of original file size or resolution. QuickTime also kept iPod info such as artwork, title, and comments stored on original .mp4 files.
